The Berkeley Township Police Department Patrol Division is the largest and most visible division in the department. These are the uniformed officers who patrol our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The Division is comprised of three shifts which are dived into 6 squads. . Each shift has two squads which are under the direct supervision of a Patrol Sergeant.   A shift lieutenant commands all the patrol officers and sergeants on their respective shifts.

The Patrol Division responds to thousands of calls for service throughout the year.  These calls include crimes in progress, first aid calls and civil disputes.  Patrol responds to the unique needs of our community.  The diverse geography and large size could have an officer answering a call in the State forests in our North and West portions of Berkeley to assisting in water rescue in the Atlantic Ocean on our barrier islands.   Our Patrol Officers are highly trained in CPR and the use of Automatic External Defibrillators (AED’s) and are the first on scene to render critical aid for all medical emergencies.

In addition to responding to calls, the patrol division is tasked with proactive crime prevention and motor vehicle enforcement.   Motor vehicle infraction stops, business checks and neighborhood patrols are just some of the many responsibilities of the patrol officer.

Residents are reminded to call (732) 341-1132 for any police assistance.   A sector car will be assigned once the initial phone call is made.   Formal police reports cannot be made over the phone. Residents who are uncertain if their concern warrants a report are encouraged to call our dispatch center so the proper response can be given to you.
