 In accordance with the New Jersey Attorney General Directive, The Berkeley Township Police Department is hereby providing public notice of the utilization of body worn cameras (BWC’s) to assist agency personnel in the performance of their duties by providing an accurate and unbiased recorded account of an incident or a public interaction. The BWC program is intended to further community trust, respect, citizen privacy and promote public safety.

As shown in these photos, the BWC’s will be worn on the outer clothing within the upper to middle torso area to ensure unobstructed recording.

PUBLIC NOTICE

 The Berkeley Township Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of its program to achieve accreditation by verifying that it meets recognized professional best practices.

 Administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with best practice standards in five basic areas: the administrative function, the personnel function, the operations function, the investigative function, and the arrestee/detainee function.

 Agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling 732-341-1132 extension 2157 on Sunday December 15th 2019 between the hours of 9:00am     till 11:00am.  Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.  Email comments can be sent to the police department at at larooca@btpsnj.org.

 Telephone comments are limited to 5 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with the NJSACOP standards.  A copy of the standards is available for inspection at the Berkeley Township Police Department at 631 Pinewald-Keswick Road Bayville, NJ 08721.  Please contact Detective Lieutenant Peter La Rocca at 732-341-1132 extension 2117 for more information.
