Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of solid waste collection and transportation to the authorized landfill.
  • Administers Programs and enforces government regulations pertaining to waste disposal and environmental issues.
  • Responsible for all aspects of recycling collection.
  • Provide compost, wood chips, and root mulch for residents.
  • Administers the Clean Community Program, which allows Berkeley Township to give different organizations the opportunity to raise money for their group, Eagle Scout Projects, and Adopt-a-Spot / Road, which helps to keep our community clean.

Bulk Pick-up Information

All residents will now have bulk pickup as needed. For all bulk items that do not fit in your can, you must now call the Public Works office to schedule your bulk pickup. Upon doing so, a staff member will schedule your bulk pickup the day following your next trash pickup. The number to call is 732-349-4616. Do not put bulk out at the curb and expect it to be picked up immediately after you call.

Approved Bulk Items: Mattresses and Box Springs (must be wrapped), Non-treated Lumber, Furniture, Misc. Household items that do not fit in your trash can.

Items Not Approved for Pick up: Construction Material, Pressure Treated Lumber, Sheds, Fencing, Trash Bags, Masonry Material, Hazardous Waste (please bring to Ocean County Reclamation Center)

As per the Town Ordinance, a pile exceeding the size that will fill a 4-foot by 4-foot by 8-foot container will require the need for a Clean Out Fee. A charge of $250 will imply.

§ 20-1.12. Cleanout / Moveout Fees. [Ord. No. 08-34-OAB § 1; Ord. No. 2012-11-OAB; amended 3-18-2024 by Ord. No. 24-08-OA]

No person shall place at the curb or anywhere else the contents of a residential dwelling for collection at the time of an entire cleanout of the dwelling unless and until a fee of $250 is paid to the Township of Berkeley and arrangements are made with the Department of Public Works for such collection. The $250 fee is limited to a collection that would fill a 4 by 4 by 8 container. Amounts in excess of that limitation will necessitate additional $250 fees as applicable.
